Our school, Hindu Kanya Vidyalya, is an institution where we strive towards understanding rather than memorizing, producing educated rather than just literate students. There is a focus on individual development so that the girls can become women of principles and grit. They are encouraged to expand their base capabilities in various fields, from education, sports to even defense. Independence is something that women have to fight for in society, even in this modern era. The school’s aim is to provide as many tools as possible for the students to attempt this task with full preparedness.
We strive to embody the school motto- “Tamso ma jyotirgamaya.”From darkness, to enlightenment. This is a very simple prayer that has been a part of Indian education culture for eons. However, the complex meaning behind it is revealed to the students gradually as they undertake the journey of becoming a well-educated and erudite person. They take the information made available to them in pieces and complete it by fitting it into their discernment. In this way, it is a unique venture for everyone despite the similar resources. From the uncertainty, yet soothing ignorance of the dark, we ask our teachers to guide us towards the clarity of truth, which while maybe harsh, will help in attaining the balance of mind, body and soul.
Education of the youth is essential to the formation of a stable, glorious future. This is what any teacher, any school strives towards. A worthy goal makes for a righteous journey. We hope to guide our pupils in such a manner that they live their life without regrets and a pristine conscience. I would like to conclude with some wise words of Dr S. Radhakrishnan, one of the most renowned Indian educators,
“The true teachers are those who help us think for ourselves.”
